What do you want to know?
- If you have a compatible Chromebook, ChromeOS 118 is now available and brings Chromebook Plus features.
- These include things like the ability to use the magic eraser in Google Photos, work on files offline, and more.
- The list of supported Chromebooks includes 25 different options, covering a wide range of devices.
It’s been almost three weeks since Google unveiled its new Chromebook Plus initiative. In addition to the newly introduced Chromebooks, ChromeOS is also supercharged with a host of new features. Now, these features are rolling out through ChromeOS 118 to devices that fall within the Chromebook Plus parameters.
There was some concern that Google wanted to limit Chromebook Plus features to new Chromebooks that were announced on the same day. Given that many of the best Chromebooks meet the requirements set by Google, this was quite a divisive move.
Fortunately, we didn’t need to grab our pitchforks and shout from the top of the mountain. Google started implementing various Chromebook Plus features in the ChromeOS 118 beta, which is now available in the Stable Channel.
Along with the official announcement, Google also provided an official list of what previously released Chromebooks will receive these new features. The current list includes 25 non-Chromebook Plus-branded devices, including some of our favorites, such as the HP Dragonfly Pro, Acer Chromebook 516 GE, and many others.
With ChromeOS 118, you’ll now enjoy the ability to use Magic Eraser in Google Photos, work offline without worrying about properly syncing your data to the cloud, and much more. The initial announcement also coincided with Adobe finally releasing a Photoshop web client in partnership with Google.
If you choose one of the new Chromebook Plus models, you’ll get three months of Photoshop on the web and Adobe Express for free. Unfortunately, these ads don’t seem to be available for “old” hardware.
However, as long as you have a compatible Chromebook, go to the Settings app and update to ChromeOS 118.
Acer’s Chromebook Plus 714 sets the standard for providing one of the best experiences on a Chromebook. It doesn’t beat it, but it has a convertible design and incredible performance.
