ChromeOS 118 is rolling out and brings new Chromebook Plus features

What do you want to know?

  • If you have a compatible Chromebook, ChromeOS 118 is now available and brings Chromebook Plus features.
  • These include things like the ability to use the magic eraser in Google Photos, work on files offline, and more.
  • The list of supported Chromebooks includes 25 different options, covering a wide range of devices.

It’s been almost three weeks since Google unveiled its new Chromebook Plus initiative. In addition to the newly introduced Chromebooks, ChromeOS is also supercharged with a host of new features. Now, these features are rolling out through ChromeOS 118 to devices that fall within the Chromebook Plus parameters.

There was some concern that Google wanted to limit Chromebook Plus features to new Chromebooks that were announced on the same day. Given that many of the best Chromebooks meet the requirements set by Google, this was quite a divisive move.

Fortunately, we didn’t need to grab our pitchforks and shout from the top of the mountain. Google started implementing various Chromebook Plus features in the ChromeOS 118 beta, which is now available in the Stable Channel.

Along with the official announcement, Google also provided an official list of what previously released Chromebooks will receive these new features. The current list includes 25 non-Chromebook Plus-branded devices, including some of our favorites, such as the HP Dragonfly Pro, Acer Chromebook 516 GE, and many others.
