YouTube is introducing a new feature that lets users create custom playlists using art-generating artificial intelligence, the Google-owned company announced Tuesday. The new beta feature starts today for English-speaking users in the US. The company plans to bring this feature to other regions and languages in the future.

To get started, you need to click on the current default image of a playlist. From there, you can browse multiple topics such as travel, nature, landscape, fantasy, animals, and humor. After selecting a topic, you can scroll through a number of requests. For example, if you choose an animal theme, you can get an image of a pug in the style of a medieval gothic painting or in the style of a pop art painting.

After making your selection, you can click the Create button. You will then receive a selection of AI-generated images to choose from. Once you find one you like, you can click save to have it appear as your playlist art.

The guided experience allows users to effortlessly explore through a range of themes and visual options to create unique cover art that expresses the uniqueness of your personal playlists, the company wrote in a blog post. YouTube Music also shared that in the coming months, it will launch a new feature on the Home tab that will make it easier for users to quickly return to listen to songs and artists they’ve replayed. When users open the app, they see their recent favorites at the top of the home tab. This feature brings the YouTube Musics homepage somewhat in line with Spotifys, allowing users to quickly jump back in and listen to their recent favorites. The company says the launch is part of its efforts to redesign parts of the YouTube Music app to help users more easily find and stream their favorite music.

The new features come as YouTube Music has rolled out new functionality to its service over the past few months. The service recently launched a personalized TikTok-style video feed called Samples. Each clip in the feed offers a glimpse of the artist, music video, and feel of the song being recommended to you. YouTube Music also recently rolled out Timed Lyrics, which lets you follow the words on the screen as you listen, along with comments, so users can share their thoughts on the app.
