Apple TV is the best streaming hardware you can buy, thanks to its impressive integration of software and hardware. And because of that, it will last you for years.

Chances are you’ll never need to reset your Apple TV. But if you do, maybe you’re gifting it to someone, upgrading to a newer model, or just fixing it on you, it only takes a few clicks and a few minutes.

How to reset Apple TV

Note that when we refer to Apple TV, we’re talking about the latest Apple TV 4K as well as previous hardware versions that don’t support 4K resolution. Resetting your Apple TV should follow these instructions, regardless of model.

Step 1: Grab your Siri Remote (yes, that’s its real name) and go for it Settings Program

Step 2: Go down System And select it.

Step 3: Select reset.

Step 4: Confirm whether you want to perform a basic task resetOr Reset and update.

Both basically do the same thing. But if your Apple TV isn’t running the latest software, the second option downloads and installs the latest version of tvOS, and then does a full factory reset.

Unless you have a specific reason not to update to the latest version of the software, we’ll just go ahead and choose Reset and update.
