The 1500 Ramcharger is an innovative plug-in hybrid truck Digital trends

RAM

The Ram brand has finally taken an electrifying approach, with the revival of the Ramcharger name, no less. Along with the new 2025 Ram 1500, the company has unveiled the new 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, a new plug-in hybrid that Ram offers as an unlimited battery electric range.

The new truck is one of a number of electric trucks, the best known of which include the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning and the new Chevrolet Silverado EV. But instead of being fully electric, the Ram Charger 1500 is a plug-in hybrid, meaning it has an electric motor and battery. And A gas tank and engine

Plugin approach

It might be a smart move. Electric trucks show a lot of promise, but they falter a bit when it comes to towing and hauling heavy loads. Keeping the Ram Charger 1500 hybrid means that with no or light loads, the truck can zip around town on electric power and can turn on the engine to tow or haul if needed. This could be a great combination for many truck owners who need that extra sound at least occasionally, but can still save some money and be a little more eco-friendly when driving around town.

The approach to building a truck is very innovative. Instead of switching directly between the electric motor and the gas engine, the truck instead uses a generator to charge the battery or provide power directly to the electric motors, meaning the truck can always deliver that instant electric zip. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily affect fuel economy much, or at least any more than any other hybrid. But it affects the overall performance.

According to Ram, the new truck offers a 92kWh battery pack with an internal 130kW generator that powers the 250kW front motor and 238kW rear motor. All of this translates into a truck that can hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds thanks to 663 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque.

But while the truck itself is innovative, the marketing surrounding it is misleading. In an age where customers are trying to find ways to overcome range anxiety and compare vehicles based on range and charging speed, rather than horsepower and fuel efficiency, marketing a vehicle as offering unlimited electric range isn’t really fair or accurate. After all, the car still needs to be charged or topped up regardless, and you certainly can’t drive it forever without filling the tank or charging the battery. Ram notes that the truck offers a range of up to 690 miles, which obviously includes using the generator.

So what about Real Domain? Well, unfortunately RAM doesn’t mention what the battery can deliver on a single charge. It notes that customers can add 50 miles of all-electric range in about 10 minutes with a maximum charging speed of 145kW. We also don’t know if it’s even possible to use the truck in electric-only mode (although we assume you can).

Unfortunately, that’s not the only thing we still don’t know about the truck. We also don’t know how much it will cost or when it will be available for purchase. Interested customers can reserve a place in the queue to pre-order the truck.

Everything else

Other than the engine, we know more details about the truck. Based on ROM images, it appears to offer a fairly modern interior with a 14.5-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It even has a 10.25-inch head-up display that makes riding in the passenger seat a little easier.

The truck offers a Klipsch sound system consisting of 23 impressive speakers arranged around the interior. It includes a 12-inch subwoofer and two one-inch titanium dome tweeters.
